The postcard mission quest is for adventurers who enjoy a bit of suspense. The quest involves a traveler who is led in their journey by a remote guide sending postcards digitally or in the mail. The cards can be sent daily or in a random pattern to the traveler and should display the featured destination of the day, a challenge, activity, or a twist in plot. Enlist any person you trust to be your distant postcard guide. They can remain in a mysterious location invisible to the traveler during the whole trip, or on site in person at select checkpoints. As the traveler, start your journey at any agreed location or place of accommodation. Be ready to be led anywhere around the world or within any traveling parameters arranged with the guide prior to the exploration. Wait with suspense for your next postcard delivery ready for any adventure to come your way.
Going further you can take this experiment to the next level by introducing more complex challenges and missions including other props or items with your postcard messages. Mail a set of rental car keys with a mission to blaze a trail through the deserts of Nevada. Leave a nightclub ticket, a matching piece of a local puzzle introducing the traveler to a new local tradition. Include a menu from a great local restaurant, or a blind date’s phone number. Many creative ideas you can come up with for this one.
Another version of this experiment is the couple’s postcard mission where the travelers are two partners, one leading the other through new destinations and challenges. The guide selectively appears and disappears leaving notes on how to find them at random times between solo expeditions and postcard quests. Your partner can point you to a day out in the city to do any number of things waiting for you at a specific restaurant or hotel ready to reward you for your journey’s efforts. You can up the intensity with even more players alternating deliveries and quests. Many possibilities and variations.
