Families are complicated. They come in all different shapes and sizes some are more or less dysfunctional but often they contain the most precious people to us in our lives. Looking ahead to the time when we will be without some of our nearest family members is not a fun task, but this day will unfortunately come at some point. When we lose our family members, to have a record of them and a way to pass their memories down is immensely powerful. I have had the good fortune to look over past records of my ancestors, family tree records, and share in the stories told by my parents and grandparents about the generations before me. But today we have the special ability to do more to document one generation for the next to follow. The digital family tree is an experiment building a family tree for a digital archive, interviewing, recording, and capturing the stories, memories, and insights of your family in special form. Create a list of interview questions to share with each family member that brings out the thoughts, stories, and personalities of your nearest loved ones. Schedule time to interview them, capture great personal moments, and let them share their favorite things. Organize the recordings into a digital archive structured in a tree format, secured, protected and backed up for future generations. Organize things to be accessed by future curious minds a century later and to retrieve a more intimate portrait of the family members that came before them.
