The future selves experiment takes the art of digital cloning to a whole new level. After you have built your ultimate digital avatar, work with AI to create new avatar versions of your future self. Create an avatar that represents you five years from now, ten years from now, twenty years, and later. Create multiple versions well into your later years working with AI to project who these people will be by aging your visual appearance and adding new life experience and wisdom to these future selves. Once these are created, interact with them and make them a part of your life. Use visual monitors to meet with them all at once. Sit down with them at breakfast once or twice a week and engage them in conversations about your life and the present moment. Seek advice and storytelling and use the reflections to aid in your decision making. As you age one day you will eclipse your projected selves and will encounter a new duality. How close did that image come to your real self? What did the future self profess and help you realize about the life you wanted or didn’t? This experience is a trip for the most arduous of life examiners. It can create a meditative experience of great depth and encourage new knowledge of what a person wants in life.
An alternative version of this experiment is to give your digital doubles different paths or parallel versions of your life. Straying farther from the realistic, create versions of yourself that are radically different. A version that rose to celebrity and wealth, another that chose the life of a monk, one that became a brilliant academic, and another that fell into poverty and works a menial job to barely make ends meet. With this multiplicity of selves, gain a new perspective on the alternative routes your life could take. Each person will carry unique qualities of you, but will reflect back different aspects and life choices. Learn from your parallel visions and notice that they all struggle with their happiness but find meaning consistently throughout. Maybe one vision inspires you to change your life’s direction or live with deeper appreciation for the life you have.
